18 Wheel of Steel: Across America to kolejna, wirtualna symulacja prowadzenia ogromnego, osiemnastokołowego samochodu ciężarowego, przypominająca takie pozycje jak Hard Truck 18 Wheels of Steel czy Big Mutha Truckers. Gracze po raz kolejny stają się jednym z amerykańskich przewoźników, zaś ich zadaniem jest oczywiście transport rozmaitych dóbr do miast wyznaczonych przez zleceniodawców. Do wyboru oddano 15 zróżnicowanych ciężarówek, którymi przyjdzie nam przewozić ponad 30 towarów (chemikalia, meble, sprzęt elektroniczny, etc.). W przypadku jakiegokolwiek uszkodzenia transportu nie możemy liczyć na najwyższą (obiecaną) wypłatę, zaś doprowadzenie zawartości przyczepy do stanu nieużywalności oznacza dla nas brak pieniędzy, należnych za dokonany kurs. Zniszczenie dóbr to jednak nie jedyny powód do zmartwień - kraksy, zła pogoda, wycieki paliwa, czy kontrole policji to czasem znacznie większe problemy, z jakimi wirtualni kierowcy muszą sobie poradzić. Posiadaną ciężarówką możemy pokonać tysiące mil autostrad ponad 48 amerykańskich stanów. Pojazd prowadzi się bardzo dobrze (zręcznościowy charakter rozgrywki), chociaż istnieje ryzyko wpadnięcia w poślizg czy „nie wyrobienia się” na zakręcie przy zbyt dużej prędkości. Za zdobyte wynagrodzenie możemy upgrade'ować ciężarówki (nowe części), a także doprowadzić je do stanu używalności, jeśli ostatni kurs napotkał na wiele nieprzyjemnych sytuacji.
